Forty keyword slots at $29, or three at $199 (annual)
The single number that decides most of these comparisons is not the sticker price. It is how many things you are allowed to watch for it.
ParseStream's Lite plan is $29 a month, or $24 billed annually, and includes forty keyword slots — twenty on Reddit and twenty on Hacker News. Brand24's Individual plan is $199 a month billed annually, and $249 if you pay month to month, and includes three keywords. The two counts aren't perfectly like-for-like: ParseStream's forty are per-platform slots — 20 Reddit plus 20 Hacker News — while Brand24's three track across all of its sources at once. Both price figures are worth stating in full, too, because Brand24's pricing page loads with the annual view already selected: the $199 you see quoted almost everywhere, including in our own research from July, is the discounted rate. The month-to-month number is $249.
Three keywords goes further than it sounds if you are a single brand with one product name and a slogan. It runs out immediately if you are doing what most founders actually do with a monitoring tool: watching your own name, three competitors, and half a dozen phrases people type while shopping for what you sell. That list is fifteen terms before you have started, and on Brand24 it is a plan decision — seven keywords on Team at $299 a month billed annually, twelve on Pro at $399, twenty-five on Business at $599. Extra keywords can be bought from account settings, though the price is not published, so ask before you plan around it.
There is a second number underneath the first one, and it is the one people notice in week two. Brand24's Individual plan refreshes every twelve hours — its own help centre says so plainly, and the plan card says it too. Hourly updates start on Team, and real-time collection on Pro. ParseStream checks every keyword hourly on every plan, including the $29 one. On a Reddit thread that is the difference between arriving while the conversation is still open and arriving after it has scrolled off the front page.
None of that makes Brand24 badly priced. It is priced for the buyer it was built for — a brand or an agency that needs a decade-old monitoring platform with reach figures, share of voice and a report a client will accept, and for whom $2,388 a year is a normal line item. It is priced against a different problem from the one a founder has on a Tuesday morning.
